During the year
2004 our Kitchen Unit has prepared 8000-8400 warm meals (30-35 customers
per day), washed as many plates, knives, forks and spoons. About 24000
cups of coffee have been served, 5000 sandwiches made, and the dish
washing machine has been used about 500 times. Both the workers and the
machines have had plenty of stamina.
Like in the
other units, there is a task assignment at 9 am and 1 pm. The members aim
to do different tasks on different days. The morning tasks include grocery
shopping, keeping the canteen (which is open both morning and afternoon),
cooking, baking, washing the dishes, setting tables, serving meals and
counting the cash. The afternoon tasks are mostly cleaning and
organization tasks and baking. Members choose tasks according to their
skills and resources. Of course sometimes there are situations when there
is no volunteer for a task, but with the help of humour a volunteer can
always be found.
The weekly Unit
Meetings are, with some exceptions, regular meetings, where the functions
of the unit are planned and evaluated and current matters are discussed.
There have been baking classes open for all members held in the Kitchen
Unit.
The lunch is
served between 12 am -1 pm. A meal costs 3 euros paid in cash or 2,5 euros
paid with a lunch ticket. Lunch tickets are sold in sets of ten. The price
of the meal includes warm lunch, bread, butter, milk, salad, dessert and
coffee. The prices in the canteen vary between 20 cents and 1,5 euros
depending of the product.
